Customer Reviews & Opinions

Another Raquel Welch Classic
Another Raquel Welch masterpiece! The movie 100 Rifles open in theaters on March 26 1969 starring Jim Brown as Lyle Decker, Raquel Welch as Sarita and Burt Reynolds as Yaqui Joe Herrera. The picture opens with Sarita sitting by a fire with her father in the middle of nowhere. Entering the picture General Versugo who runs the Mexico solders and he’s there to hang Sarita father. The General takes Sarita as a prisoner and takes her to his town. Entering the picture is Yaqui Joe Herrera who just robbed six thousand dollars from a bank in Phoenix and spent the night in town drinking and sleeping with Mexico woman. Entering the picture is Lyle Decker who is a sheriff from Phoenix looking for Joe Herrera to take him back to Phoenix. When Joe wakes up, he sees three Yaqui Indians tied and hung on telephone poles. General Versugo has his soldiers kill six more. Lyle Decker tells the General who he is and why he has come to his town. The General takes both Lyle Decker and Joe to his train where Lyle Decker tells the General that Joe stole 6 thousand dollars and American Law wanted him for 200 hundred dollars. The General wants to know what he did with all the money and Joe tells him that he spent it on whiskey and woman. However, Joe spent the money on guns to help the Yaqui Indians. Joe, Lyle Decker, and Sarita all escape from the General who sends out soldiers to fine them. Joe and Decker are capture and right before they’re shot by a firing squad, Sarita returns with help to rescue them and now control of Mexico is on. Now a few thoughts about this picture. I thought Jim brown was excellent in his role as Lyle Decker. Not only were Brown and excellent football player he was a good actor. What can you say about Burt Reynolds that hasn’t already been said. He was usually funny self with ways of getting out of trouble like any actor I know. Finally Raquel Welch! Her role as Sarita was fantastic the way she handle herself in the entire picture. The part where she’s changing he clothes in the tent and the shower part under the watering tank was the best part of the movie. I give this picture 10 star for two reasons. The first and the most important was Raquel Welch as the leading woman with her beautiful body and her fantastic mine. The second reason because if you like action this movie had it and plenty of it.

Fathom [VHS] starring Anthony Franciosa, Raquel Welch, Ronald Fraser, Richard Briers, Greta Chi

Fathom [VHS] starring Anthony Franciosa, Raquel Welch, Ronald Fraser, Richard Briers, Greta Chi
Why Buy A Fathom [VHS] starring Anthony Franciosa, Raquel Welch, Ronald Fraser, Richard Briers, Greta Chi?
A certain lime-green bikini reaches icon status in Fathom, clinging as tightly to Raquel Welch as those phagocytes that attacked her in Fantastic Voyage. Raquel was the reigning sex goddess of the moment, which is all you need to know about Fathom, an otherwise extremely silly example of proto-Austin Powers spy spoofery. Shes a poster come to life, and the movie is geared around her 60s outfits (a purple-and-cornflower ensemble is particularly stupefying), her orange-peach lipstick, and the way her hair seems perfectly in place even after a high-speed boat chase. Sadly, Raquels dialogue delivery is as stiff as her brunette mane, but the movie perks up when she is chased around by an angry bull, a sequence that may have you wondering whether you ate some bad cheese. By the way, her character is a dental assistant, visiting Spain as part of a skydiving troupe. Enjoy! –Robert Horton

Customer Reviews & Opinions

Life can be great!
Can you imagine being paid to spend days making a movie with Raquel Welch in such a beautiful setting. Not to mention the outfits Miss Welch was wearing. Tony Franciosa definately had some very good Karma to be able to achieve this. Outside of the obvious… This is a wonderful movie with terrific acting. Tony Franciosa is probably the most under rated actor of all time. He has a great intensity that shines beneath the smoothest “one of a kind” voices on this planet! Raquel Welch is indescribale… So Beautiful.. and so Talented! A fast moving fun movie not unlike a good James Bond movie with a cute and funny twist. And the period in which this was filmed was such an innocent sweet period in our world. I highly recommend this film for pure escape and great entertainment.

Hannie Caulder [VHS] starring Raquel Welch, Robert Culp, Ernest Borgnine, Christopher Lee, Jack Elam

Customer Reviews & Opinions

Another One Of Raquel Welch Great Films
I when I saw this movie I was hesitant about buying because I could picture Raquel Welch being in a western. Boy was I wrong! Raquel Welch played the role of Hannie Caulder living in a small house with here husband. Ernest Borginine, Jack Elam and Rufus Clemens play the role of three ruthless cowboys. When the 3 brothers pay Hannie Caulder visit things turn ugly and Hannie sets out for revenge. Enter Robert Culp who plays the role Thomas Luther Price a bounty hunter who takes Hannie under his wing. Price teaches Hannie how to shoot a gun and that’s when things start to get interesting. If you’re a Raquel fan you’ll enjoy this different but none the less great movie. The movie starts out slow but shifts into hide gear not long after it starts.

But Not for Me [VHS] starring Clark Gable, Carroll Baker, Lilli Palmer, Lee J. Cobb, Barry Coe

But Not for Me [VHS] starring Clark Gable, Carroll Baker, Lilli Palmer, Lee J. Cobb, Barry Coe

Customer Reviews & Opinions

“A Lucky Star’s Above, but not for me”
The film was actually a remake of an earlier 30s film called, “ACCENT ON YOUTH.” Directed by a forgotten master, Wesley Ruggles, ACCENT ON YOUTH is a sparkling comedy that starred Herbert Marshall as the older (50ish) playwright, and Sylvia Sidney as his devoted secretary Linda. Marvelous Astrid Allwyn played Genevieve, the other woman–Allwyn, a familiar screen presence in the 30s with dozens of small parts to her credit, including an important one in CHARLIE CHAN’S SECRET. And amusingly Lon Chaney Jr. figured as one of the “young people” in ACCENT ON YOUTH. He wasn’t yet typecast in horror parts.

In the 1950s remake, Gable plays the producer and Carroll Baker his young, naive assistant (the names are changed in the remake so she’s no longer LINDA. They have a May-December romance that’s actually pretty touching. It might be Carroll Baker’s best part, she’s not straining to be super-sexy nor is she twitching with Actors Studio neurosis. Gable gives anm easy, restrained performance as a man who’s always had more sex appeal than he’s been comfortable with. Lilli Palmer is supposed to be more Gable’s age, and here she plays his former wife with whom the sparks are still flying. The theatrical milieu is appropriately amusing, quips flying like darts, and Walter Lang, the director of such celebrated screen musicals as THE KING AND I, STATE FAIR, and CALL ME MADAM, really knows how to fill up the screen with lively tableaux. The script is by John Michael Hayes, the renowned screenwriter who worked with Hitchcock on several of his best 50s pictures, and of course the original play was written by Samson Raphaelson, one of the geniuses of the American theater in the 1930s. They don’t get much more amusing than the tender, rueful, BUT NOT FOR ME. You’ll be humming the wonderful Gershwin tune from reel one: “With love to lead the way/ I’ve found more clouds of gray/ Than any Russian play could guarantee . . .”

One Of Clark Gables Best
This is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen and of the thirty or so Clark Gable movies I own is one of the top five to me. Gable plays his age perfectly and the rest of the cast does such a great job at playing with him. The funniest scene to me is the glossy photo scene in Carrol Baker’s dressing room, but the wit thrown around between Gable and ex-wife Lilli Palmer is as good as male-female interaction gets in the movies, and lines regarding the “chicago fire…” and the dangers of a women being alone in the park made me laugh hysterically. Wholesome and entertaining.

TRANSFER THIS FILM TO DVD PLEASSSSSSSSE!!!
It is truly a shame that this film is not available on DVD in this age of technology! Furthermore…[.....]..ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I already have a copy on VHS and I bought it brand new…and no…it did not cost anywhere near [.....]. That is a total rip off. The movie is entertaining, but it’s not that good and most people have never heard of it. Why the scandalous greed when it comes to selling a copy of a VHS? I am just going to have my copy transferred to DVD and I will sell them for [.....] bucks a whop. I’m an incurable romantic and a Catholic and that is why this movie appealed to me. Believe me…it’s no great drama, but if you are a romantic like myself, you will enjoy it very much.

EVER GOING ON DVD?????
WONDERFUL MOVIE. CAN NOT FIND IT ON DVD ANYWHERE. HOPE IS DOES SOMEDAY!

Why this film is not restored and reproduced on DVD yet?
I’ve seen this movie when I was about 15 in Korea and it’s been re-released in Korea during 1987 again but the quality of the film was

so bad plus the size of screen was changed to 4:3 instead of the original

size Anamorphic ( 2.7 : 1 ). absolutely disappointing - So even I still

waiting for the copy on DVD with a great hope but I wonder if the original

negative film might have damaged alot or lost.

I do hope it will be restored and reproduced on DVD soon.as many other

Customer Reviews & Opinions

Hollywood Classic
Alot of reviews I see are forgetting…This movie is based in 30’s Hollywood time period…Yes it is “Hollywood” in parts and maybe the whole movie, but in the 30’s, Actors and movies lived out The “Drama Queen” life style, it was almost expected. It was about Glamor,Drama,

Scandal,Tabloids,Hidden Life Styles,..Over The Top Acting..False Rumors for Publicity sake…Dont compare it to todays Movie Dramas…Back then Clevage was Sexually Bold!..Today we have Total Nudity, for Gratuitous and movie viewing for selling reasons alone…Dont be so hard on this movie, it was made and Directed to create a speciffic Time Period Of many years Long Gone.

Memphis Belle [VHS] starring Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz, Tate Donovan, D.B. Sweeney, Billy Zane

Memphis Belle [VHS] starring Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz, Tate Donovan, D.B. Sweeney, Billy Zane
Why Buy A Memphis Belle [VHS] starring Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz, Tate Donovan, D.B. Sweeney, Billy Zane?
If youve never seen an aviation movie before in your entire life, youll be blissfully ignorant of the fact that Memphis Belle shamelessly (and yet gloriously) incorporates just about every cliché in the flight-movie handbook. If youre a big fan of aviation movies–especially movies about World War II bomber crews–youll be glad that the genres clichés have been handled with such professional flair. As it follows the crew of a B-17 bomber on its final and most dangerous mission over Germany, Memphis Belle may be little more than a slick and highly authentic presentation of familiar thrills and characters, but its a rousing piece of entertainment. Featuring an ensemble cast of fresh faces whove since enjoyed thriving careers (including Billy Zane, Sean Astin, Eric Stoltz, D.B. Sweeney, and Harry Connick Jr.), the movie exists as a fitting tribute to the men who fought and often died in the air over hostile territory. Its the Hollywood version of a 1944 wartime documentary made by legendary director William Wyler (whose daughter served as one of this films producers), and as such its a bit contrived and melodramatic. And yet, this exciting movie is almost certain to grab and hold your attention, offering an honorable reminder of the bravery and integrity that were crucial ingredients of any bombers crew. –Jeff Shannon

Memphis Belle
Great movie. Great storyline. Awesome cast. Gave a pretty clear understanding of the mindset of bomber pilots and crews during the bombing of Germany during WWII. I would recommend this to most everyone. Kids will enjoy this as well.

Along Came a Spider (Spec) [VHS] starring Morgan Freeman, Monica Potter, Michael Wincott, Dylan Baker, Mika Boorem

Along Came a Spider (Spec) [VHS] starring Morgan Freeman, Monica Potter, Michael Wincott, Dylan Baker, Mika Boorem
Why Buy A Along Came a Spider (Spec) [VHS] starring Morgan Freeman, Monica Potter, Michael Wincott, Dylan Baker, Mika Boorem?
After an obligatory prologue in which its detective hero suffers a tragic professional setback, Along Came a Spider sets about its business of luring the viewer into its nefarious plot, relying on the magicians technique of misdirection to reveal a double-whammy surprise. The clever, late-coming plot twist is a bit too mechanical but effectively unexpected, making this a satisfying prequel to the hit thriller Kiss the Girls–based on the first of James Pattersons Alex Cross detective novels–and a welcomed addition to a promising movie franchise. Its no better or worse than a good vintage episode of Peter Falks Columbo, adhering closely to the mystery-thrillers time-honored traditions, but with Morgan Freeman settling comfortably into his role as seasoned sleuth Alex Cross, familiar formula is given fresh vitality.

When a senators daughter is kidnapped from her high-security private school, the kidnapper (nicely played by the underrated Michael Wincott) draws Cross into the case, knowing that the psychologist-detectives involvement will bring high-profile publicity. Cross partners with the Secret Service agent (Monica Potter) who botched her assignment, but wait… the movies got a rabbit in its hat… and that rabbit has an ace up its sleeve… and director Lee Tamahori (who brought similar intensity to The Edge) handles the sleight-of-hand with slick precision, dispensing just enough information to keep the viewer off guard without resorting to cheap manipulation. Dont look for much depth of character here, but Along Came a Spider is well served by everyone involved. Its the movie equivalent of a bestseller youd impulsively buy at the grocery-store checkout, and on those terms it succeeds. –Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews & Opinions

Along Came A Spider
This movie is exciting from the beginning to the end. I thought is was one of the best I have seen with Morgan Freeman. It holds your interest because it is fast paced and there is no lull in the middle because when the action starts you just want to keep watching to see what is going to happen next. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Morgan Freeman and lots of excitement.

Police Drama
A good movie with an excellent cast. Recommending this particular movie adult audience fans of both Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman.

This was great
Can anything that Morgan Freeman is in be bad?

The two characters that made this whole movie worthwhile were those of Dr. Alex Cross and “Mr. Sonneji” (I forget the name of the actor who played the role, but I have seen him before and he makes a great bad guy).

Some parts of the movie stretched the imagination, but it was something that had a good number of twists. Enough to keep a viewer interested but not so many that a person would become confused.

Castle Keep [VHS] starring Burt Lancaster, Patrick ONeal, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Peter Falk, Astrid Heeren

Castle Keep [VHS] starring Burt Lancaster, Patrick ONeal, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Peter Falk, Astrid Heeren
Why Buy A Castle Keep [VHS] starring Burt Lancaster, Patrick ONeal, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Peter Falk, Astrid Heeren?
Released to mixed reviews in 1969, Castle Keep now qualifies as a potent allegory for the insanity of the Vietnam War. In that respect it belongs in the same category as better-known anti-war films of the period including Little Big Man and The Wild Bunch, and director Sydney Pollack (who scored his breakthrough hit later that year with They Shoot Horses, Dont They?) deftly straddles a stylistic line between old-school Hollywood and the emerging counterculture epitomized by Easy Rider. He also gets a memorably off-kilter performance from Burt Lancaster (who had been instrumental in launching Pollacks directorial career), the young-looking Tony Bill (who later became a successful producer-director), and especially Peter Falk, who would soon gain TV fame as Columbo. As American soldiers occupying a richly-appointed medieval castle in the Ardennes Forest near the end of World War II, theyre a M*A*S*H-like bunch of military misfits (including Bruce Dern as a conscientious objector) engaged in a microcosm of occupational warfare as German troops draw closer. The ending is uncompromisingly bleak, reflecting the futility of Vietnam with long-lasting resonance. From a latter-day perspective, Castle Keep is a bold hybrid of large-scale WWII action and political statement, which may explain why such high-profile filmmakers as Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese campaigned for this glorious widescreen DVD after the earlier release of an inferior full-screen version. –Jeff Shannon
