Super easy online registration
I purchased both my macbook and the apple care package from Amazon. I fully expected the registration to be a bit of a hassle, based on some of the negative reviews. But it was easy. Took all of five minutes on line, including the creation of an AppleID, and the proof of coverage arrived by e-mail ten minutes later. AppleCare is outrageously overpriced, but Amazon makes it a bit more affordable for the exact same service.

Cool purchase from Amazon
Ordered this item from Amazon for my MacBook Aluminum as it was $50 cheaper from Apple Store. Received the item from Amazon within 2 days, registered AppleCare at Apple website in 10 mins without any issue, after 5 mins of registration got the mail from Apple as proof of purchase with my registration information that warranty is extended for another 2 years. Then to verify everything I called-up Apple Phone support, they confirmed warranty extension, coverage of my Airport Express in same warranty and global coverage of Apple care. I travel a lot across the world for my job and global coverage is an important bit to me. I have not faced online registration difficulties by buying it from Amazon, as few people experienced it. Anyways AppleCare is expensive and I am happy to save $50 out of it.

AWESOME!
It’s quite simple: the Applecare program is definitely needed when owning a Mac… and why not save fifty bucks?? After reading some of the reviews here, I decided it was safe to get it from Amazon.

Some people gave it poor rating because they had trouble registering. I myself had trouble doing it online. So, I called Apple customer support, gave them the registration code, and they said I was all set. It took all of about 30 seconds.

Some gave it poor reviews because they were under the impression that it was some kind of insurance plan. It’s not. No where does it say this. No one from Apple would say it. If you are buying an “insurance plan”, it’s probably a fraud. It simply extends the warranty to 3 years… including full phone support. The phone support is worth it’s weight in gold, especially for someone who’s a new mac user. They can not only fix problems, but also teach you how to use any of the programs on your mac.

Bottom line: awesome program, buy it from Amazon, pay $50.00 less than anywhere else!

Leapster 2 is a hit!
My 5 year old daughter received the Leaptster 2, a Disney princess game and the kindergarten game for Christmas. The Kindergarten game is by far her favorite. She would play with it for hours if I let her. My 3 year old loves it too. There are many fights over the Leapster and the Kindergarten game.

Easy to navigate
One of my goals in getting games for our son’s Leapster is that I wouldn’t have to constantly help him. This game is easy to navigate and doesn’t seem to frustrate him. It also has just enough of a challenge, so I don’t think it’s too easy either. I bought this at Wal-Mart for $18 (two weeks ago), so this price it a little steep.

Held her attention!!
We just got the Leapster2 for our 4.5 year old and chose a couple of games - you want to be picky since they are expensive and you don’t want so many as to overwhelm them. This is one of her favorites and she delights in getting points to buy the robot parts. She comes running in the room to shout “I spelled a word” and that she got to complete a robot. She also enjoys the Pet Pals game. This is a great educational toy, but can you will need to limit their time (she would play all day if I let her). The Disney Princess Enchanted Tales game did not hold her attention nearly as long, and she is a princess fanatic.

Crazy machine has 100+ levels. Each level offers the player a palette of items such as cannons, balls, battery, light-bulb, timer-switch, steam-engine, dynamite, levers, fuse-wire, gears, dynamo, drive-belts, planks, toy-robots, electric-wires and host of other objects. These objects are to be arranged/manipulated by the player on the game board.

Each level presents an objective to be met - example, turn a sequence of levers to flick a timer switch which will activate a magnet which in turn will draw a ball to the target hole …

Basically, in each level, construct a Rube-Goldberg machine in 2D animation. Note that the objects and their dynamics/characteristics are always governed by basic principles of physics.

Alike any puzzle type game, the levels get progressively harder.

- This is an extremely enticing interactive game. My 7 year old son & I (Dad) play this routinely, and we are ever so eager to take on the next level. These puzzles nurture several aspects of young minds:

o It challenges their analytical thinking, however this is applicable no matter what the players age is, be it 6 or 75.

o It is a basic science education for kids: such as, how to connect up a circuit, how to couple gears to get a desired speed ratio/direction etc.

Most importantly, it is challenging yet entertaining at the same time, i.e. a level might even take 15mins or longer without any breakthrough, but it will never give one a dead-end feeling which would have otherwise discouraged one to the extent of giving up !

- The graphics are 2D w/ shadow effect, not so high end, but more than adequate for the purpose.

- We both adore the background music & sound effects. Quite dramatic !

- One in our top5 father-son activities.

== Wish List ===

- User has no control over which level to play - the levels are progressive, rightfully resumes from where one left off. Would be nice to have limited control as opposed to none.

- How about letting one player create a puzzle/level so that another player can solve it ?

- Too bad this CDROM, ver 1.5 is Windows only, my son’s new computer is a MAC !

A microscope that gives good results for relatively low cost
Five or so years ago, I gave the earlier version of this microscope to our two older grandchildren. On talking to their dad recently, I found that they still use it for looking at things. My other son’s oldest son turned 7 a few days ago. I thought that he would enjoy one of the newer QX-5 models. By searching the Internet for this model, I found that it was available at a very good price from the company who supports the microscope. When I called them they said they were out of stock but gave me the name of a dealer who sold it for the same price. In installing the software no problem was encountered using a Vista computer system. The box does not say it works with Vista but the supporting company said it should have the software, but if it didn’t they could send it to me.

My son installed the software and initally helped my grandson to use it. After a bit he could use it without a lot of instruction, though I would recommend that an adult read over the instructions and do some of the operations with the child.

The microscope can be taken off its stand and held close to an object to view it. If the child is careless or accidentally drops the scope, damage could occur. It is nice that the QX-5 can take pictures of the viewed objects and also videos of specimens which are in motion.

QX5 Microscope, very good choice
I bought this microscope as a christmas gift for my kids, the software instalation was very easy and without any problems that usualy had with other software for toys.

My kids (8 and 7) spend many time investigating a lot of diferent things like food, fabrics, plants, insects, etc.

It works nice and I am vey pleased with this well spent money.

Best “toy” he got for Christmas
My son got this for Christmas and immediately hooked it up to his laptop. He (and my husband) spent a lot of time exploring the features of this microscope and magnifying many items in our house under the lens. The slides that come with it are fun and educational. He especially loves the fact that he can capture the images and save them on his computer. He’s even emailed the images to his grandparents. It’s a great microscope and the focusing and functionality are perfect. We’ll be “playing” with this for a long time.

Worth every penny
We have owned several Macs, and the extended warranties have paid for themselves many times over.

Great money-saver on AppleCare!
Despite what others have said about their difficulties with registering their MBP, I felt that the registration process was pretty painless. Essentially, I received my AppleCare Protection Plan package in the mail, went to Apple’s website, entered the serial number for my MBP, entered the AppleCare registration number, and then I was done. The whole process took about 5-10 minutes at most.

Took longer to ship than the Mac Book we purchased but my daughter is happy with it.

Real life experience
You’ve got a new MacBook Pro. Let’s face it, it wasn’t cheap. The standard 90 day telephone support / one year warranty seems pretty long. Buying a protection plan seems like unnecessary expense. These things work incredibly well and are incredibly reliable.

So what do you need Applecare for?

Well first of all your MacBook Pro is going to last a lot longer than one year. I have had my 17″ MBP for over two years and it runs like it is just out of the box (try saying that about any Windows notebook). But it is a computer. It has moving parts. It is in other words a mechanical device. Any mechanical device can fail.

Now someone posted a review that said Applecare isn’t insurance. That reviewer is right. But it is a very generous warranty. I have sent my MBP in three times (twice to my local Apple Store which can do repairs locally many times) and once to the service center. Only one problem was critical-a dead display. The others were for issues I had taken to the Genius Bar only to learn that I needed replacement parts. One was a HD issue (even though the HD was working) and the other was a keyboard problem. Total cost? Zero dollars.

My stepson has the same model MBP as I do, and got his at the same time. He did not buy Applecare and so far has been very lucky. But he did have a dead display which was initially slated to go to the Service Center for repair at a cost around the same as Applecare. Fortunately the store opened the case before shipping it out and found a loose connection. The cost for cracking the case and pushing a wire into a slot? $80 (still a lot cheaper than a trip to the Service Center).

So bite the bullet and get Applecare. It may not be insurance but it certainly is peace of mind.

Recommended to anyone who spends over 1k!
Didn’t buy through amazon but I must say this is a must if you spend over 1k! I bought a macbook pro and just recently had issues with the screen. Took it in and they fixed it without questions! If I didn’t have this plan I would have been forking out $800+!
