Customer Reviews & Opinions
Excellent choice for general news
This blog looks very similar to the one from the New York Times. The articles are well laid out, and there are a lot of nice pictures. I’m subscribing to both the blog from the New York Times and this one, since I always like to have at least two independent sources for the news I read.
highly recommended news blog!
So far Reuters is my favorite news service available for Kindle. It downloads/refreshes several times daily with the latest top news from around the world. Reporting is the most unbiased and well-written I have found yet, which is wonderful, and the Kindle version is very well laid out… easy to navigate and informative. Perfect for a quick check of the latest world news. It’s a real treat opening up my Kindle and finding new Reuters articles to read every few hours. Highly recommended, and much better priced than the “newspapers” available for Kindle.
Using Kindle to go online to the free news sites is OK, but nowhere near as convenient as having it download automatically through the day. Some days I just don’t have the time to navigate through to the free sites, and for that reason I find it well worth the small monthly fee to have it come to my Kindle automatically. It’s all about convenience.
I also like the “Reuters Technology” blog (a great value, I think, at $0.99 a month)… also highly recommended for those who are into following events in the technology world.
I didn’t think I’d be using the Kindle for blogs and news etc, when I first got it, but have grown to really enjoy them. I am not a big fan of paper newspapers due to the bulk, and ink rubbing off on my fingers, which I’ve always detested. But on the Kindle it’s fun, easy, fast, paperless! And I get the latest news faster than I ever could with a paper newspaper. It’s a real treat. I will be keeping the “Reuters Top News” blog when my free trial ends (and “Reuters Technology” also).
First Test Result (Bhutto’s Assasination): A+
I have been reading this blog for a while, but I did not know how fast the blog was being updated. I was actually able to subject the blog to a speed test on the day Bhutto was assasinated. I was watching CNN that morning when the breaking news of Bhutto’s assasination came up. After watching the news for 5-10 minutes, I took my Kindle and checked the Reuters Top News blog. I did not see anything about the assasination. Then, I went on the home page, pressed the Select Wheel, and chose Check for New Items. Upon completion of the update, I saw that a lengthy post on Bhutto’s assasination was there. A number of different articles about this shameful event appeared on my Kindle over the next couple hours. When it comes to other top news, Reuters Top News is very fast and satisfactory. If you really would like to read about what is going in the world as it happens, I suggest you subscribe to this blog. Otherwise, you might want to save your money for more books.
Another advantage of this blog: The articles do not include a lot of comments like NYT’s articles. I think this blog is more objective than the newspapers. I might be wrong, though.
